"fish and paint" live on bob & tom

with the asylum street spankers!

november 23, 2004

so last march i was on the bob & tom show and i brought a little song i wrote called "fish and paint".  they played it and accused me of smoking dope.  then they played it again.  and again.  over the next 6 months people kept telling me they were playing my song all the time. it even made it to their top ten list

today i was on again.  i was happy to see a band i like called the asylum street spankers would also be on the show. they have a great old-time jazz/folk sound.  upright bass, double-necked ukulele, guitars, banjo, drum, washboard…  they played a song ("beer") in the studio while i watched through the glass in the engineer's booth and danced around.

then someone said, "why don't you guys go out with dan kaufman and learn his "fish and paint" song.  what?!  well, we did it, and here it is - my silly little song getting the full treatment from this great band that i was just happy to be on the same show with.  a high point in my career, and probably a low point in theirs.

thanks, spankers!  and thanks to the whole bob and tom gang for all their support.
